INS017 - Drive Your Business with Jeff Peterson & Bill Davis

In this episode I interview Jeff Peterson, CEO and Co-Founder of Geneva Supply and Bill Davis, VP of Sales and Marketing at Snap On Industrial Power Tools, sub-brand Sioux Tools.
Jeff is also the co-creator of Biz Tank, which is a nonprofit organisation connecting kids to real life business experience and real life business people, and producer of The Kids in The Tank podcast.
I interviewed the kids from the Kids in the Tank on episode 13 and on the same day I was interviewing them, Bill Davis was their guest for an upcoming show and this is how I happen to have these two amazing business minds together in one place.
Today we discuss:
  • Learning how to fight with passion and enthusiasm
  • Understanding goals and expectations
  • Why a book is written to spark the fire, not build the embers
  • The importance of your brand
  • Brand recognition, innovation and technology
  • Think ahead about your brand and where it’s going
  • Build your company on flexibility
You’ve got to be willing to fail publicly, but if you have passion for what you do you will be successful long-term.
Business Tips JEFF:
  1. Your greatest strength is to know your weaknesses and to surround yourself with people to fill those weaknesses. Therefore hire people capable of taking your job from you, because this will drive you to perform better. We all need to be pushed.
  2. Self Reflection – After any meeting or interaction, always ask, “how did I handle that situation”? Also ask you team the give you honest feedback if they were present.
Business Tips BILL:
  1. Product is the most important thing in your business, so always provide a quality product.
  2. Treat your BRAND like it’s a child. Worry about how it is being perceived, its image, reputation, who it’s hanging around and whom it’s being seen with.
  3. Always make logical and defendable decisions, because these will pass the test of time and you’ll be consistent with your decision-making.
Monday Morning Tip:
Let your mind wonder (morning shower, walking etc), because your mind will tell you what it wants you to know, but only when there’s nothing else going on.
